Need to write to the St. Agnes Church to obtain records of Kohaneks. See the website “The Poles of Ashland, Wisconsin: 1884-1888” … according to the website there are definitely baptism records on site. Also, check the cemetery records: St. Agnes Cemetery, 106 2nd Avenue East, Ashland 54806; run by: St Agnes Cemetery Association, 201 Lake Shore Dr East, Ashland, WI 54806-1736 Phone: (715) 682-7620.

Get copy of divorce record of Ida and Frank Kohanek, divorce notice published 3/18/1930 (found in www.newspaperarchive.com) in the Appleton Post Crescent, Appleton, WI; Frank was a resident of Menasha, WI at this time. Frank is probably the son of Bernard Kohanek / Kochanek of WI — this is probably the Anthony Kohanek tree, since Anthony and Mary Schwerman settled in Wisconsin.

Who are the Kohaneks in New Prague, MN? Robert Kohanek (of Longville, MN) said there are many Kohaneks buried in New Prague. Must write to the historical society and check the cemeteries. They might be Kochaneks.

Looking for evidence of Joseph Theodore Kohanek drawing cartoons for a Chicago newspaper. TO DO: Contact the historical society (?) for someone to lookup the comic section in the newspaper for the time period when Joe may have been drawing for them. Time Period? Also, Drew cartoons for Disney and was paid $200. The work didn’t last long. Contact Disney archives to get any information possible on Joe. Time period?

PLOT LOCATIONS

Need to look for the newspaper article of Anthony Kohanek’s death in Waverly, (Wright County), MN,from rusty nail, June 18, 1915. Contact the Minnesota Historical Society (or send email) to find someone to look up the microfilm research on this. Must search the paper up to one week to ten days after the death to not miss follow-up articles. (CALLED 9/30/2004 AND REQUESTED A NEWSPAPER LOOK-UP. They checked 3 newspapers and couldn’t find it …. maybe someone will go to the archives or the historical societ, or a library, and double check this.)

Records from Old Soldiers Home for Joseph Theodore Kohanek (Joe’s WWI Diary)
According to the Minnesota Soldier’s Home in Minneapolis, they only keep patient records for 10 years by state statute. But they have retained their index cards which they will copy and send you. It not only lists the patient’s name, address, dob, place of birth, illness, date of admittance, length of time in Minnesota, religion, time in hospital, cause of death, but also the name of the person who was in the service, their unit, which war (although WWI is called WW), and their rank.
Look for Soldier’s Certificate Number for Pension Records. Possible Contact: MN Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs
